So two weeks ago, I handed in my research proposals to the grad admin. My two topics were: 1) problems with pronunciations in the Korean context and, 2) the impact of collaborative learning on oral fluency and accuracy. Prior to writing the proposals, I had the chance to speak to the supervisor whom I really wanted to with and he gave me sooo many ideas and guidance. I've always wanted to work with him because his specialty is in oral communication--- most notably in fluency and pronunciation.
The problem with this is that it is the supervisor who chooses us, rather than us choosing them. Therefore, I decided to be "smart" by writing BOTH my proposals on something that this particular supervisor is interested in. They can't make me do something I am not interested in right? and they can't force a supervisor to supervise a student who's topic they are not familiar with, right? so it must be that supervisor! since he's the only one interested in the speaking aspect of TESL.
or so I thought I was "smart"....
Last Friday, they had a meeting regarding the proposals.
Today, I received an email saying that I got another supervisor.... one whom I really didn't want because his research interest is just soo boring. I just didn't understand why I am stuck with him. I complained to my classmates that I got this prof because ya.... natural sin? But Why would he want me?!?! and why didn't the other supervisor WANT ME? I am doing my research on pronunciation! This assigned supervisor isn't even doing this stuff! argh!!
Felt quite rejected for half and hour.
But then after thinking about it, I realized that I needed to be thankful that the Lord had placed me with him. Not sure if they forced him to take me in or he actually wanted me as his student, but it doesn't matter anymore, because last term, he was the one who gave me the highest marks. I had the highest mark out of the four courses so I don't know if marks was a factor too.
I am glad that I have this prof now--as least I didn't someone worst. Just thinking about it and bringing this entire situation back to God, it really isn't a baddd thing to work with him.
Maybe the Lord just doesn't want me to be with this prof that I had wanted. It is better to be stuck with someone who gave me good marks then someone who didn't give me as good grades as I hoped for.
So I am thankful. I know there must be a reason why God placed me with him. I'll just have to wait and see......
Lesson of the day:
- I really need to slow down my complaints. Think more, pray more and speak less.
