15 years later....
Have you ever wondered how your elementary school friends are doing?
Well, one night I decided to search up all my grade 3 classmates on facebook. One friend led me to another. haha. It's been 15 years since I last talked/associated with them.
Three of them are married. Another three have babies!!!!! Some look quite good -- I would have never imagined them turning out like that. Some looked exactly how I imagined. Some I believe had plastic surgery because I don't remember them looking like that. Some just remained the same but with a more mature face.
We will never reunite because I know many people have forgotten me since I only hung out in their class for a year and then I had to switch schools. But it is always nice to check up on them once in awhile.
Their pictures really made me reminisce the old times. 15 years ago, we played in the mud! Boys had cooties! 15 years later, people have their own families!!! Who would've thought......
Time sure flies.
I wonder what people will look like 15 years from now. We'd be....38! ( I really hope I won't be in school still.....haha)

Rejected....but glad.
So two weeks ago, I handed in my research proposals to the grad admin. My two topics were: 1) problems with pronunciations in the Korean context and, 2) the impact of collaborative learning on oral fluency and accuracy. Prior to writing the proposals, I had the chance to speak to the supervisor whom I really wanted to with and he gave me sooo many ideas and guidance. I've always wanted to work with him because his specialty is in oral communication--- most notably in fluency and pronunciation.
The problem with this is that it is the supervisor who chooses us, rather than us choosing them. Therefore, I decided to be "smart" by writing BOTH my proposals on something that this particular supervisor is interested in. They can't make me do something I am not interested in right? and they can't force a supervisor to supervise a student who's topic they are not familiar with, right? so it must be that supervisor! since he's the only one interested in the speaking aspect of TESL.
or so I thought I was "smart"....
Last Friday, they had a meeting regarding the proposals.
Today, I received an email saying that I got another supervisor.... one whom I really didn't want because his research interest is just soo boring. I just didn't understand why I am stuck with him. I complained to my classmates that I got this prof because ya.... natural sin? But Why would he want me?!?! and why didn't the other supervisor WANT ME? I am doing my research on pronunciation! This assigned supervisor isn't even doing this stuff! argh!!
Felt quite rejected for half and hour.
But then after thinking about it, I realized that I needed to be thankful that the Lord had placed me with him. Not sure if they forced him to take me in or he actually wanted me as his student, but it doesn't matter anymore, because last term, he was the one who gave me the highest marks. I had the highest mark out of the four courses so I don't know if marks was a factor too.
I am glad that I have this prof now--as least I didn't someone worst. Just thinking about it and bringing this entire situation back to God, it really isn't a baddd thing to work with him.
Maybe the Lord just doesn't want me to be with this prof that I had wanted. It is better to be stuck with someone who gave me good marks then someone who didn't give me as good grades as I hoped for.
So I am thankful. I know there must be a reason why God placed me with him. I'll just have to wait and see......
Lesson of the day:
- I really need to slow down my complaints. Think more, pray more and speak less.

Legion
A brother just watched the movie "Legion" and said that it was epic fail.... not sure what he meant by that. It could be the acting, the plot or the entire movie, but what I find "epic fail" is the wrong message it gives people.
Same with the movie "2012".
Why do people like to twist the bible around?
Why do humans want to be bigger than God?

Mercy
As a TA, how much mercy should I give?
This term I've tried to be more "loving" to my students. I have been encouraging them to come to my office hours so I can help them with their presentations and assignments. I really don't want to give bad grades to my students this term since I was super hard on them last term. But then, this is a first year course and they should know the reality of university; that it isn't a piece of cake to get that degree.
But when a student abuses this mercy, it really makes me mad. Sometimes I just don't know how to be a TA and be merciful at the same time. How do you be mean and lovin' at the same time?!
There's no point to this entry.

Another First-timer
Last Friday was my first time going on the GO TRAIN. It was very comfortable! I can actually stretch out my legs!!!
It was also my first time transferring from a Go BUS to a Go TRAIN. wow.
I didn't know how to get on the tracks though, but people were nice. hahaha.
It was a great experience!!!

1:37am
God is really unpredictable. wow.
Sometimes I just don't understand how something so impossible can be made possible. It is almost like...how can oil and water mix? but they can. wow.
I
am
in
shock
right
now.
I should not lose hope.

Korean ESL students
Today I got the chance to sit in a Korean ESL class. So before my TA friend started the lesson, she asked the students to ask me questions. Some of them were just sooo cute and funny!!!!
TA friend: "This is Priscilla. Do you have any questions for Priscilla?"
*everyone raises their hands*
Girl 1: "where are you from?"
me: "Hong Kong. I moved to Canada when I was 8 years old"
Girl 2: "I always thought Hong Kong people have blond...brown? hair, how come your hair is black??"
HAHAHAHAHAHAH sooooo cute!!!
I think this was before class started....
Boy 1: "where are you from?"
me: "I was born in Hong Kong. I moved to Canada when I was 8 years old"
Boy 1: " ohhh Hong Kong, so Hong Kongian?" HAHAHAHAHAHA
These koreans kids are soooo cute!!! <3 The way they talk is sooo funny! This girl was like "Today at recess, B and I were playing, I don't remember what happened, but I wanted to kill her" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
AND, They were alll sooo surprised that I could speak Korean! and said I sounded like a Korean! ^___^!!!

Today, God gave me something that I had longed for, asked for and prayedd for. Obedience is key....
hmm..... is this a sign from God that I should......?!?!?!
more prayers needed.

Holiday is over! =(
I can't believe the holiday is over! But I have to say that I am well-rested and that I just can't wait to finish this term!
Over the holiday, I (not in any particular order):
That's all I can remember for now. But praise God for all the above items! Sometimes I am amazed at how many friends I have since I am quite reserved and..... anti-social.

Chocolate fudge walnut cookies!
biscottis made by A. Li and chocolate fudge cookies made my me (with help from A. Li)

Over the holiday, I (not in any particular order):
- got to spend lots of time with family
- marked exams for 12 hours straight! plus entering marks into the system
- hung out with my TA/MA friends ( we had a Christmas party before everyone left for their respective country)
- thought about my research study (eeeek, I still gotta write that proposal that's due this Friday! yikes!)
- had many individual/one-on-one time with friends at coffee shops and random restaurants....
- hung out with my Mac friends and made new friends
- went to my highschool annual Christmas party (glad I went this year!)
- had a hotpot dinner with the 3 important highschool friends
- hung out with zoe for new years
- started watching a new taiwanese drama (I gotta admit, this is wayyyy better than the korean dramas! haha)

- went to Pacific Mall on Christmas day (never again will I be doing that! the parking lot was PACKED!!!)
- went to the last of the year prayer meeting
- went downtown to meet up with a friend whom I only see ONCE A YEAR! (not joking!)
- went downtown and ate at Salad King! (best Thai restaurant ever!!!!)
- started reading a book
That's all I can remember for now. But praise God for all the above items! Sometimes I am amazed at how many friends I have since I am quite reserved and..... anti-social.

Firstborn
Today I was reminded of what happened x years ago.
I remember one day complaining about being the oldest of the two children, how there were just so much more responsibilities compared to my brother, how I had to be the first one doing things, whether it be the first one entering school or the first one doing chores. Why couldn't I just be the little one and have everyone else take care of me? I complained about how it wasn't fair that I had to learn everything on my own in grade school but had to help out my brother when he didn't understand something. Who helped me with projects when I was at that age? NO ONE. Who taught me how to study? NO ONE. I was selfish. I calculated everything (literally!) and made sure things were fair between my brother and I. However, my dad rebuked me right away (which I am very thankful for now that I am older) after my numerous complaints and dissatisfaction. He said, it is a blessing to be the firstborn. Firstborns get extra blessings from the Lord. Just look at Esau and Jacob (Genesis 25)! Esau had the birthright, but did not care about the blessings of the Lord and traded it for a pot of stew. In the end, Jacob took over the birthright and was able to "rule" over his older twin brother.
The bible is so real and what the Lord said is so true. Most of my friends are firstborns and I can see that they are smarter, more successful and have more blessings bestowed upon them than their younger siblings. Not saying that the younger ones are not blessed, but it appears that they have to work extra hard to achieve something. God gave firstborns the ability to deal with all the extra responsibilities. He gave them the ability to deal with situations on their own and the extra intelligence that the youngins don't have. Though of course, sometimes it appear that some firstborns are "less intelligent" than their younger siblings, firstborns are still more blessed.
May I never forget that being a firstborn is a blessing. May I forever be grateful for having the ability to handle all responsibilities. May I be reminded each time I help out a youngin that I am using what the Lord has given me.
Note: only child considers as firstborn.
